Prepare for delays as work to improve J4 of the M5 set to start

Redditch Editorial 27th May, 2020   0

WORK to improve Junction 4 of the M5 near Bromsgrove are set to get underway early next month with lane restrictions and road closures from the start.

The works, to be carried out by Worcestershire County Council, will start week beginning June 8.

They will include widening of the both the northbound and southbound sections of the A38 Halesowen Road, to increase capacity on and off the Lydiate Ash M5 Junction 4 roundabout.

Footways will be re-positioned to accommodate the wider carriageway and verges widened for greater visibility.

The work is part of the wider A38 Bromsgrove Improvement scheme, which has already seen improvements at Barley Mow Lane and later this year will see more work at Junction 1 of the M42.

Councillor Ken Pollock, the County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: “The improvements will make a huge difference to the congestion currently seen there by improving the flow of traffic coming on to and leaving the roundabout.”

The work is being delivered in partnership with Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership and Highways England.

Highways England regional director, Catherine Brookes, said: “The investment in this busy junction will improve journeys for drivers, unlock the potential for new jobs and homes and help drive the local economy.”

The work is set for completion later this year and will include lane restrictions and road closures from the very start.
