Progress continues on Redditch Police and Fire station

WORK is on track to see the new Redditch Police and Fire station completed by Autumn, with significant progress at the site on Middle House Lane.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion is working in partnership with West Mercia Police and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) to bring a new police and fire station to the heart of Redditch.

The PCC’s Estates team are overseeing the project, which has continued at pace since the build began last year.

The main foundations of the station have now been constructed, with the police and fire departments established to ensure work can continue around what each service will need structurally to meet the needs of the local community.

Contractors Speller Metcalfe are continuing with both external and internal works in the coming months.

PCC John Campion said: “It’s encouraging to see how the new Redditch Police and Fire station has progressed over the past 12 months under the management of my Estates team and in collaboration with partners.

“The new station will ensure more money can be spent on front-line services, with a fit-for-purpose building providing both police and fire personnel with the tools and resources they need to deliver a high-quality service to the public.

“I am committed to delivering on my promise to reform West Mercia and with the completed project, officers will be more visible and accessible to the public at the heart of the community, which is key to my Safer West Merica Plan.”

Superintendent Mel Paley, North Worcestershire LPA Commander, said: “I’m pleased to see our new state-of-the-art station is coming along so well and on schedule.

“This brand-new hub will offer the very latest facilities and will be a great platform for our officers and our partners in the fire service to continue to serve our communities for many years to come.”

Chief Fire Officer for HWFRS, Jon Pryce, said: “Redditch has been in need of new fire station for many years and this joint venture is not only more efficient and sustainable, but it will also give Redditch the modern, fit for purpose fire station it needs.

“Not only will the Firefighters have the best possible facilities, but they will also have the opportunity to work more closely with police colleagues in making sure our preventative work is targeted at those most in need of our help.”
