A NEW unit to support people during their recovery after being discharged from hospital has opened.
The Step Down Unit is close to Worcestershire Royal Hospital and is aimed at people who need a period of assessment to understand what their future care requirements are.
Previously, patients would be accommodated in different locations, such as care homes, where they would receive care and support but often became more dependent.
Now, with a dedicated unit backed by the county council, the service will be more targeted resulting in more people achieving the right outcomes for them.
The unit has 30 beds and opened at the start of December and is building up to full capacity.
