Pupils laying foundations for the future as Redditch schools join

Redditch Editorial 22nd May, 2021   0

PUPILS at Abbeywood First School and Church Hill Middle School RSA Academies are witnessing the building of a new joint entrance and library for the two schools.

The plans for the project started when Church Hill Middle School was approached by Worcestershire County Council to offer more places for Year 5 pupils in September 2021.

As a result the existing school library and an IT room are going to be used as additional learning spaces and a modern library will form the main space in the new building.

The schools will also share a reception, with one office serving both schools, as the new building is at the heart of the site, physically joining the schools.

“Reading is at the heart of learning and so I’m excited that the building gives us the opportunity to design a library that will encourage reading and be somewhere where pupils want to be, surrounded by books,” said executive principal Nicola Beech.

“Our aim is to create a space that is inspired by the power of words and feels different to the usual school environment.”

Abbeywood and Church Hill started to work closer together when they joined Central RSA Academies Trust in 2016.

“This project is an important next step in bringing the two schools even closer together,” said Guy Shears, chief executive of Central RSA Academies Trust.

“This building will reflect that they are joined in their commitment to providing the best possible education for children.”

The work is expected to be completed for the start of the new school year in September.
