TIME is running out to take part in The Big Butterfly Count 2020.
The nationwide citizen science survey is aimed at helping Butterfly Conservation assess the health of our environment.
It was launched in 2010 and has rapidly become the world’s biggest survey of butterflies.
More than 113,500 citizen scientists took part in 2019 – submitting 116,009 counts of butterflies and day-flying moths.
And Redditch, with its profusion of trees, two large parks and meadows, is an ideal place to count them.
The count is because not only are butterflies beautiful creatures but they are also extremely important.
They are vital parts of the ecosystem as both pollinators and components of the food chain, yet they are under threat.
Numbers have decreased significantly since the 1970s and Butterfly Conservation says this is a warning that cannot be ignored.
To take part visit https://butterfly-conservation.org/ but hurry as it closes this coming Sunday (August 9).
