THE future of the Alexandra Hospital was on the agenda when Rachel Maclean, newly-elected MP for Redditch County, and other county MPs, met with Minister of State at the Department of Health, Philip Dunne, yesterday (Thursday).

The meeting took place in London and was the latest step in Mrs Maclean’s promise to highlight local health services and to seek assurances the Government will follow through with promised investment into the NHS.

“It was made clear in the Queen’s Speech this week that the Government intends to strengthen the economy so it supports the creation of jobs and generates the tax revenues needed to invest in the National Health Service, schools and other public services,” said Mrs Maclean.

“Once the consultation into local health services and the subsequent business plan has been agreed by the Redditch & Bromsgrove Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the £29million promised to the Alex and Worcestershire Royal before the election will be forthcoming to pay for new operating theatres and other improved facilities including car parking.

“I very much welcome this re-affirmed commitment – Redditch has lived through uncertainty for too long.”

Mr Dunne added: “I am determined to help sort out the issues faced by Worcestershire and I look forward to the outcome of the CCG meeting next month. We shall support the new leadership of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and I hope that proposals will address the long-standing challenges faced by the acute trust.”

Mrs Maclean met with Trust CEO Michelle McKay on Friday afternoon.
