RAIL STRIKE- Major disruption to WMR services to and from Redditch on Wednesday and Saturday

WEST Midlands Railway (WMR) is urging passengers in Redditch to plan ahead after two strike days were announced for next week.

A strike by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) on Wednesday, July 27 means the Cross-City lines between Lichfield Trent Valley and Redditch or Bromsgrove via Birmingham New Street will each get one train per hour in each direction.

The first train from New Street to Redditch on that day will set off at 7.53am, with the first train to Lichfield Trent Valley departing from Redditch at 8.55am.

The final train from Lichfield Trent Valley to Redditch will leave at 4.08pm and the last train going in the other direction will depart at 3.55pm.

The last service from Redditch to Birmingham New Street will leave at 5.42pm.

There is also expected to be some minor disruption to services on Thursday morning due to train displacement.

There will be no WMR services next Saturday (July 30) due to strikes by the driver union Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) and those attending Commonwealth Games events have been advised to use other modes of travel, including specially laid-on road transport.

WMR customer experience director Jonny Wiseman said: “It is very disappointing that these planned strikes are set to cause significant disruption to our customers.

“On both affected dates customers should only travel if their journey is essential and they have no means of transport available to them.

“People holding advance tickets for travel on the affected dates can use them on alternative dates or return them to their point of purchase for a refund.”
