SAVE The Alex are urging the public to turnout in force to question health bosses and the town’s MP over the future of the Alexandra Hospital.
A public meeting is to be held at Redditch Town Hall on Wednesday, September 28 at 7pm and it is open to all.
Redditch MP Karen Lumley and the leader of Redditch borough council, Councillor Bill Hartnett will be chairing the meeting which will also include top medics from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (WAHT) and doctors from Redditch and Bromsgrove clinical commissioning group (CCG).
The meeting offers a chance to ask questions on the decision to close the paediatrics ward at the Alex as well as on the reasons behind the the removal of maternity, and sustainability fears on the future of Accident and emergency and what the future holds for the Alex.
With many NHS trusts across the country facing record deficits, the meeting will also offer a chance to quiz Mrs Lumley about the government’s record on hospital finances.
Locally CCGs in Worcestershire are being obliged to find £25 million in savings.
Save The Alex will also be holding a protest rally before the meeting from 6pm outside the Town Hall in Walter Stranz Square.
Its chairman, Neal Stote, said: “This will be the last chance for the public to make their feelings known and get answers before consultation starts.
“We hope as many people as possible will turn out to support the Alex and show this town wants and needs a hospital providing the key services we all rely on and not what is fast becoming a glorified cuts and bruises clinic performing planned operations only.”
