Ready to rock: Town's Bonham festival to help teens fight cancer

A REDDITCH festival in memory of legendry Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham in the town centre on Saturday, September 25 hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the Teenage Cancer Trust West Midlands.

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity providing young people with specialised nursing and emotional support and meeting this critical need. The money raised will be used to fund vital services for young people before, during and after cancer treatment across the West Midlands.

Festival sponsor Oakland International’s Group Managing Director Shaun Foley said: “John Bonham was a phenomenal artist and drummer, and the Teenage Cancer Trust West Midlands does such amazing work offering much needed support to so many young people across the area that we are delighted to offer our backing and support as a sponsor.”

All artists taking part are giving their time freely, with Oakland International sponsoring the arena artist hospitality area which will provide artists with a secure, covered area and facilities and refreshments so that they can rest and prepare for their amazing performances.

Teenage Cancer Trust West Midlands needs around £1million annually to fund its services which includes support for specialist units at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

Plus there’s three Teenage Cancer Trust youth support co-ordinators, a nurse consultant to lead the regional service, seven clinical nursing specialists providing support to young people with cancer aged between 13 and 24 and a specialist co-ordinator and an administrator to support the service.

Festival director Ros Sidaway said: “Sponsors are critical to our fundraising success. We’re so grateful to Oakland International for supporting the John Bonham A Celebration II festival after what has been a tough 18 months for businesses and charities too.

Young people should not have to face cancer alone and Teenage Cancer Trust does amazing work in supporting them through a cancer diagnosis and treatment.”

Oakland International is a local employer operating 24-hours/7 days a week.

It’s a specialist in contract packing, storage, picking, food distribution and a brand development support provider for ambient, chilled and frozen food to the retail, convenience, discount, wholesale and food service markets in the UK, Ireland and via their partner in Spain.
