THE ALCESTER Big Breakfast on Saturday saw a record-breaking amount made for charitable good causes as well as serving up more fry-ups than ever before.
Organised by Alcester and Bidford Rotary Club at the Greig Hall community centre, the busy morning saw 250 breakfasts served to hungry residents and more than £2,000 to distribute locally to community projects.
“It went absolutely brilliantly – a record. We keep breaking previous ones every time we put on an event,” club treasurer Carol McCormack told the Standard.
“We also had a lot of additional help on the day which we couldn’t do without, as well as support from local businesses.”
Adding to the convivial ambience was pianist John Bond Evans who accompanied the full English on offer with a tinkling of the ivories.
“It helped create a lovely atmosphere. Lots of people commented how lovely it was to have him there,” Carol added.
Businesses that supported the morning with donated or discounted supplies included Clayhall Farm, AP Meats, Evesham Vale Foods and Mudwalls.
Alcester and Bidford Rotary meets on each Thursday at the Kings Court Hotel, King’s Coughton mornings and evenings. New members welcome.
