Redditch couple 'feel ill' after mould infestation takes over council house

A REDDITCH woman says she is growing ‘increasingly ill’ after being unable to remove a mould infestation in her council home.

“The council has sent out a mould exterminator, four, maybe five times, but they simply can’t fix it and it the mould keeps coming back,” said Maureen Johnstone from Abbeydale.

“One of the men who came over to have a look told me he doesn’t even think anything can be done about it, and it’s beyond the point of repair.”

Her partner Peter refuses to stay over because he has a chest infection and Maureen says it’s leading her to depression.

“This is driving us up the wall,” said Peter.

“We are going to get married soon and we can’t stand the thought of coming back from our wedding to this place.

“The council keeps fobbing us off by pushing it on to someone else to deal with.”

A council spokesperson said: “We can only apologise that the need for this work was missed on our end.

“We will arrange with the resident for Environment to go out to the property shortly and conduct a brand new survey which we will then be actioned as a matter of urgency.”
