A REDDITCH accountant is lacing up her trainers ready to compete in Sunday’s London Marathon to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Kim Clewlow from Winyates Green, who has set herself a £2,000 fund-raising target, said: “After receiving my place in April I felt quite daunted at the challenge.

“But I was motivated reading so many stories of young people fighting cancer and the help the Teenage Cancer trust provided – not only to the patients but also to the families of members.

“One of our friends is currently fighting cancer at the age of 19 and they are receiving great support from this charity.

“I have felt truly humbled by the incredible support I have received.”

Kim has raised more than £5,000 so far.

She said: “Training has been very tough especially in the hot weather and there has been days when I wanted to give up.”

Kim credits her determination to her training partner Wendy Willis, who is also running the marathon on Sunday.

Wendy is raising cash for a young person in Redditch who has Cerebral Palsy.

The funds raised will go towards buying them motorised wheelchair.

Wendy has raised nearly £2,000 so far.

Kim added: “Wendy and I have been training for the London Marathon since May – we have held each other up when we have had to dig deep in the training.

“We have laughed together, cried together and hugged each other when times have been hard.

“Though out all the trials and tribulations of the training we constantly held together knowing the great charities that we are running for.

“For me, although the marathon is this weekend, my journey of raising money and awareness for The Teenage Cancer Trust is just beginning.

“It has been the most humbling experience in my life so far.“
