Redditch animal lovers urged to consider adopting a pet in 2018

A LOCAL animal rescue centre is urging people to consider adopting an unwanted pet in 2018.

Nine year old Chiquita, an Akita, has been at the Blue Cross centre in Catshill for 85 days, frequently being overlooked due to her age.

She’s described as a playful and loving companion who would be perfect for a caring family with young children, and even other pets.

Oscar is a ten-year-old cat who would fit in with either a family, or someone in need of some company.

Oscar’s been at the centre for 120 days yet has received no interest from visitors.

If ownership is too much people can sponsor a pet to help with the costs of keeping them warm and well-fed.

The Blue Cross says £3 a month ensures a cat or dog has its basic necessities.

Andrea Embling, the Blue Cross’s animal welfare supervisor, said: “We have so many pets needing a home.

“While they should never be given as surprise presents, the Christmas period can be a good time to take on a new pet as people are off work and have the time to help them settle in.”

She added older pets could be just as loving and playful so people should not be put off.

“We hope all of these pets get what they want for Christmas – a happy new home.”
