REDDITCH anti-knife crime campaigner Pete Martin has been praised for his community-focused self-defence and advice sessions.
Held at Woodrow Community Centre this summer, the free sessions offer residents practical self-defence training, community safety advice and a welcoming space to chat, ask questions and build confidence.
Delivered in partnership with local police officers and supported by Couns Jane Spilsbury, James Fardoe and Paul Wren, the scheme has been praised for strengthening community ties and empowering residents through open dialogue and practical skills.
Redditch MP Chris Bloore said: “Peter Martin’s sessions are a shining example of what community spirit and grassroots engagement look like in action.
“He tackles difficult issues head-on, listens to residents and creates a warm, inclusive space where people feel informed, supported and safe.
“Whether you’re learning practical self-defence skills or just stopping by for a cuppa and a chat, these sessions are building confidence and bringing people together – exactly what we need more of in our town.”
Police have also been on hand at the Monday drop-ins to offer advice and guidance, providing residents with accessible support on policing and safety issues.
The sessions require no booking, are open to everyone and will continue to run through until August 25. Sessions are on Mondays at 1pm and Fridays at 6.30pm.
