A SPECIAL family funday will be held by the Redditch Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club (AFVBC) to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
The event, from 12pm on June 1 at Redditch Hockey and Rugby Club, Birmingham Road, will feature a multitude of activities for all ages.
Among the attractions will be military vehicles, de-activated military weapons, a re-enactment stall, large steam traction engine, the army reserves, the army cadets, West Mercia Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and a chainsaw carver.
For children there will be a free bouncy castle and slides and rides whilst for the adults there is an outdoor bar.
Entertainment will be provided from an outdoor DJ, choir, violinist and pipes and drums.
Nick Walker, from Redditch AFVBC, said: “It’s very important we keep remembering those who fought for us 80 years ago so we can live our lives as we wish.
“At Redditch AFVBC it has been a fantastic year for us with many new friendships being formed. We’ve had some fantastic events already with some great ones in the pipeline, one being the D-Day 80 years anniversary celebrations.
“We have the privilege of making this the special occasion it deserves and have some amazing attractions to suit this, please join us on June 1 and remember those who sacrificed so much all those years ago.”
D-Day on June 6 1944 signalled the start of the liberation of Europe from the Nazis when the Allies landed in northern France.
James Shotbolt added: “D-Day is an historic event that the world needs to keep remembering.
“What does is mean to me? Being ex-army brings home what these amazing people did, not just the fighting soldiers but the civilians who supported it. These are the heroes that should never be forgotten in my eyes.”
