REDDITCH artists are amongst those taking part in Worcestershire Open Studios – the county’s largest free annual art event.

Artists and makers will be welcoming the public into their studios, giving behind the scenes access into how they create their art.

This year the event has more studios to visit with 97 venues showcasing 128 artists, from August 19 until 28.

There are seven artists in Redditch, including Julian Bull, Tashy Canvas, and April Kirk.

Richard Nicholls from Worcestershire Open Studios said: “Artists will show how they work, the tools and materials they use and answer any questions.

“The artists’ work will be on display with the chance to buy original art, many will have cards, prints, and gifts for sale too.”

Julian Bull, Visibull Art and Design, is focussed on highlighting the beauty and importance of trees at this time of climate change.

Using a number of processes, slices of fallen tree are made into printing blocks.

Digital images are then taken of the tree ring prints to form the basis of artwork for a range of Eco T-shirts, homeware.

They said: “Nestling under a walnut tree, and located within a private sculpture park, my garden studio is the perfect place to highlight my work.

“The contemplative beauty of the surroundings forms a perfect canvas for visitors who will be warmly welcomed to explore my world.

“Visitors can see the processes involved in creating my prints and the wide variety of results from many species of tree.

“They will also be able to browse and buy my prints; small tables; my range of organic ‘Tree Shirts’, as well as other homewares and light boxes all bearing images of my tree ring prints. Visitors are also welcome to visit our private sculpture park if they wish to.”

Printed guides have all the detail on the artists taking part and are available at Arrow Valley Countryside Centre, Abbey Stadium, Forge Mill Museum, Redditch Town Hall, Palace Theatre, or can be downloaded from the Worcestershire Open Studios website.
