Redditch Astronomical Society looks to the skies during New Moon

Redditch Editorial 27th Jan, 2023 Updated: 27th Jan, 2023   0

REDDITCH Astronomical Society braved the cold during the last New Moon to observe the planets and constellations visible from dark sky.

Members gathered at Morton Stanley Cafe, bringing telescopes and binoculars to watch.

Using a good variety of astronomical equipment, they were able to observe the Jovian moons travelling around Jupiter and the winter constellation of Orion with its nebulae of dust and newly born stars.

A society spokesperson said visitors came from across the county, some with young children interested in space and telescopes, for a fabulous night of observing and photography.

“Although temperatures continued to plummet and fog threatened to obscure the sky, a great night was had by all and we will return to this spectacular Redditch location in the months ahead.

“Hopefully the skies will be as cloud free as the weather warms up and more interested locals will join us to observe and learn more about astronomy.”

The Redditch Astronomical Society meet once a month at the Windmill Community Centre, Rye Grass Lane, and at Morton Stanley Park Cafe for observing evenings.
