A BACKPACKER from Redditch who crashed into and killed a father-of-two while she was riding an e-scooter under the influence of alcohol has been jailed for four years.
Alicia Kemp was found to be driving at speeds of 12mph to 15mph on a pavement in Perth in Australia in May when she struck 51-year-old Thanh Phan.
He hit his head on the pavement and died two days later from a brain bleed.
The 25-year-old was charged with dangerous driving causing death and pleaded guilty to the offence at Perth Magistrates Court in August.
In her sentencing hearing, the court heard she had been drinking all afternoon and was more than three times the legal alcohol limit for driving.
A friend of Kemp’s, who was also on the scooter at the time, was also injured in the crash – she suffered a fractured skull and a broken nose.
Jailing her, Judge Wendy Hughes said Kemp was ‘zigzagging across the footpath’ and ‘driving in a reckless manner’.
She added the backpacker showed no care of regard for any pedestrians in the area at the time.
