Redditch bakers get ready for Taste of Taiwan on Day of Prayer

Redditch Editorial 27th Feb, 2023   0

CHURCH-GOING bakers in Redditch are brushing up their culinary skills ready for this year’s World Day of Prayer.

World Day of Prayer is next Friday, March 3, and a wave of prayer will move around the globe, beginning at dawn in Samoa, working its way through Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas before ending 36 hours later in American Samoa.

This year’s service has been created by the women of Taiwan.

The island and the 100 small islands that make up the country sit on the Ring of Fire which runs around the edge of the Pacific Ocean, and lie where the tropical and subtropical monsoons meet.

Members of Redditch church congregations are practising making the Taiwanese Honey Castella Sponge and Pineapple Cakes.

Sharon Forrest, a member of the town’s Ecumenical Centre, said: “Every year we have a couple of recipes to try out from the host country – this year’s look delicious.”

The normal Friday morning breakfast will be available from 10am.

“Everyone is welcome to come a bit early and join us for that,” added Sharon.

The service then starts at 11am on March 3 at Ecumenical Centre, with a second evening service being held at Christ Church, Matchborough, at 7.30pm.
