Redditch banner will be flying high as Sue joins Suffrage tribute march

Redditch Editorial 8th Jun, 2018   0

REDDITCH will be well represented at the tribute marches to the suffrage campaigners this weekend.

The marches in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast on Sunday are retracing the steps of many a protest in the past and are also to draw attention to the issues that still stand for woman today.

All the marches will be led by the inspiring women of our time.

Susan Tatlow local historian and founder member of the Redditch Recorded Through Art Group has made a grand banner featuring Emmeline Pankhurst and Millicent Garrett Fawcett, with ‘Redditch’ proudly emblazoned on it.

Susan, who worked on the banner for weeks, said “it’s nearly as tall as me!” and that she would be in the purple section.

The banner reminds everyone that the vote had to be fought for and must be used.

The march comes just weeks after Redditch celebrated the successes of its own women achievers to mark the 100th anniversary of (some) women getting the vote.

The event was organised by the local branch of Unison, whose colours are purple and green, the same as the suffragette movement.

The processions are free to take part in andmore details are available at www.processions.co.uk

There will get a second chance to see the banner at the next Bandstand event in the town centre on June 16 when there will be a Victorian themed Vintage Day from noon.
