A REDDITCH community group has been praised for the work they do with people with Alzheimers.
The Singing for the Brain sessions, which have been running in Redditch for four years, provide 90 minutes of singing, games and social activities designed to support people living with dementia and their carers, family and friends.
With the help of dedicated volunteers, the Alzheimer’s Society offers a friendly and inclusive space where participants can boost wellbeing, stimulate memory and connect with others.
The group meets every Tuesday from 10.30am to 12pm at the Windmill Community Centre in Redditch.
The programme combines vocal warm-ups with a mix of familiar and new songs but no singing experience is necessary.
The focus is on enjoyment, connection and creating a positive environment for people affected by dementia.
Redditch MP Chris Bloore attended one of the sessions.
He said: ““I was genuinely moved by what I saw at Redditch’s Singing for the Brain. For 90 minutes there was music, laughter and smiles all around – proof of the incredible impact this group has on people living with dementia and their loved ones.
“The volunteers and Alzheimer’s Society staff who make this possible week after week are truly remarkable.
“They’ve been doing this for four years, creating a space where people not only feel supported but also have fun, feel valued and remain part of their community.”
Sessions run for 30 weeks of the year, with parking, refreshments and accessible facilities available on site. Advance booking is required through the Alzheimer’s Society.
