A BOROUGH Councillor working as an NHS health care worker in Birmingham has seen the devastating effect of coronavirus first hand.
Coun Debbie Chance (Lab, Central) said: “Covid-19 has directly affected a number of my friends and colleagues, and they are starting to become traumatised by what they see.
“It brings home how much risk our NHS workers are being placed in, but we can all do our bit.
“Please help us by staying at home as much as you can.”
Her call comes as her local Labour colleagues roll up their sleeves to support the local community through the pandemic.
Group Leader Coun Bill Hartnett, said: “It is great to see how the quickly Redditch has set up and organised so many support groups.
“We are all working together and co-ordinating for the same purpose – it has been described as a community blanket.
“I know our members are supporting more than one group. Great work is being done across our town.”
Couns Joe Baker and Hartnett have been out shopping for residents who are shielding and self isolating, Coun Yvonne Smith has picking up prescriptions and supplies for vulnerable people while Coun Wanda King has run essential errands while working full time as a domiciliary care worker for the elderly.
“Community is really important to me and it is at times like this when we all need to roll our sleeves up and get involved in anyway we can,” said Coun Baker.
“Be safe and protect our front line workers.”
