A REDDITCH pro heavyweight boxer made a statement win over a previously undefeated opponent on Saturday.
Simon Ibekwe took to the ring to fight Will Howe in Sheffield at just one week’s notice.
Ibekwe set out his stall in the first round landing sharp jabs that rocked back the head of his durable opponent.
The remainder of the six-round fight involved back and forth action with both heavyweights displaying a high output of entertaining toe-to-toe work.
The bout was scored 69-65 in Ibekwe’s favour, with the Redditch fighter having outworked his heavier opponent to land the cleaner shots.
Ibeweke, who had been out of the ring for 10 months, now looks on to bigger challenges in the near future.
He has five wins and no defeats in his professional career so far.
