Redditch boy named 'Young Sibling of the Year' for supporting disabled brother

A NINE-year-old boy from Redditch has been named ‘Young Sibling of the Year’ for how he supported his disabled brother during the pandemic.

Sense awarded Zach Filler for always putting his younger brother Luca, who has complex needs, before himself.

The charity took note of how Zach would sacrifice spending time with his friends to look after the six-year-old and keep him stimulated with sensory toys and singing.

It’s been vital in helping Luca, who is fed through a tube, with his learning and development.

It has also helped take a huge amount of pressure off their parents.

“I am so happy to have received this award, it means the world to me,” said Zach.

“Sense is so important to me and my family – thank you.”

Mum Faye said: “It’s emotional for him to be recognised.

“Siblings get forgotten about a little bit when you have a complex child who has other needs.

“It is really touching as Zach is not often recognised for how caring he is.”
