Redditch boys are a cut above with free lawn mowing

TWO Redditch youngsters have decided to do their bit for the community this summer by mowing 50 people’s lawns for free.

The pair of friends – 15 year-old Ben Foreman, from Lakeside, and 12 year-old Jacob Tipping from Studley, – will be offering their gardening services to people who are elderly, disabled, or otherwise unable to mow their lawns themselves and the youngsters are doing it all for nothing.

Inspired by American man, Rodney Smith Jr, who launched Raising Men Lawn Care Services last year to encourage American youths to give back to their communities, the lads have decided to take on the huge task this summer.

The 50 Yard Challenge, as part of Mr Smith’s mission to mentor boys and girls aged seven to 17, sets a goal for children worldwide to cut the grass on 50 lawns for free for people in their community who are in need.

Those who take it on are given coloured t-shirts each time they reach the milestone of 10, 20, 30, 40 and then finally 50 lawns.

The boys decided to see if anyone in Redditch and Studley might appreciate their help in getting their garden tidied for the summer and have already begun their challenge.

Ben’s mum Sarah added: “It’s a really big task to take on, but we’re really proud of them both for wanting to do something good for others. We’ll be supporting them as they work their way through the challenge throughout the summer.”
