Businesses warned to avoid fraudsters claiming to be from 'the local paper'

Redditch Editorial 6th Mar, 2019   0

BUSINESSES in Redditch and other parts of Worcestershire and the West Midlands are being warned not to be duped by fraudsters who are posing as sales representatives from local newspapers offering cheap advertising.

The caller may claim the paper has teamed up with the council as part of a scheme to promote local businesses with the authority subsidising the majority of the advert cost, leaving the firm only having to pay £20.

Then when the company hands over its bank details, the fraudster withdraws hundreds or thousands of pounds.

Many of the businesses targeted have been garages.

Anyone who has been approached in this way should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

For genuine advert enquiries for this newspaper, call our sales team on 01527 588688.
