Redditch car and bike enthusiasts raise nearly £500

A GROUP of Redditch car-enthusiasts have raised nearly £500 for West Midlands Air Ambulance from a fund-raiser held in the town last weekend.

‘Speed Freakz’, a local bike group, and Underground Cruisers, a group of car enthusiasts, hosted the event on Sunday (March 20) at Washford Industrial Estate, on Hemming Road.

A number of vehicles – some modified – were on display and more than 300 fans flocked to the event and helped raise £491.79.

It’s a cause close to the groups’ hearts after a younger brother of Speed Freakz member Ashley Woodfield was airlifted to hospital after an incident.

And the clubs hoped to not only raise funds for the Air Ambulance but to spread awareness that they do a lot more than just enjoy ‘souped-up’ vehicles, having previously raised £650 for the brain injury unit at Leamington.

“Young people involved in these kind of groups quite often get a bad name but this a reminder that we are not all bad and we actually do some good things,” said Ashley.

Michelle McCracken, regional fundraising manager for Midlands Air Ambulance said: “The funds raised by Speed Freakz and Underground Cruisers will fund vital equipment for our aircrew, assisting Midlands Air Ambulance Charity in undertaking further lifesaving missions.”
