A COMPETITION to appoint this year’s Redditch Carnival royalty roles is underway.
Entrants for who will lead the carnival parade on September 21 are being invited to submit a short video to the organisers by 6pm, Saturday, August 3.
To be considered, they need to say a bit about themselves, their interests and include why they would like the role.

Last year’s carnival royalty Kristian Andrews and Tia Payne.
Organisers are looking for Miss Redditch Carnival Queen and Mr Redditch Carnival King (aged 19 and over), Miss Junior and Master Junior Redditch (aged 14 to 18) and Junior Redditch (aged 9 to 13).
They are also looking for little princesses, pirates and superheroes to join this year’s royalty to join the procession on the day.
Organiser Joanna Bussey said: “Redditch Carnival is an historic event which wouldn’t be the same without our royal party so we look forward to receiving entries from the community. I’d like to point out that there is no age limit on the top two jobs.”
She added that this year the royal party would be conveyed along the streets of Redditch on its own float.
Joanna told the Standard that one of the duties of the carnival king and queen would be to visit local care homes to spread the word about the event.
The winners will be announced at the royalty pageant and disco on Sunday, August 4 at Rocklands Social Club. They will be crowned by last year’s carnival queen Tia Payne.
The carnival made a welcome return to the town in 2019 after a 19-year absence. It was started in 1929 and ran every year except during 1940 and 1941 until 2000.
