Redditch celebrates all things Polish at new festival

Redditch Editorial 22nd Apr, 2023   0

A SPECIAL festival at Oakenshaw Community Centre will help people discover more about Poland and its close links to Redditch and the UK.

Created to mark Polish Heritage Day, the event on May 14 will mark the 80th anniversary of Polish codebreakers coming to the UK.

They contributed considerably to the breaking of the Enigma code and the Allied victory in the Second World War.

Britain declared war on Germany in support of Poland when the Nazis invaded the country in 1939.

Lukasz Drobniewski, a representative of the Midlands Polish Community, says everyone is welcome to attend the event.

He said: “There will be Polish food, music, drinks, but also candy floss, face painting and many other attractions.

“We have prepared information about Polish-British cooperation, especially during the Second World War.

“Younger children will be able to find out what types of codes there are and learn about some of them, such as the Morse Code.”

A car boot sale will also take place during the festival which takes place from noon until 4pm on May 14.
