A REDDITCH charity is asking the community to pitch in to make its celebration day a success.
Alison Osborne, director of charity Bound Together CIC, is holding the event to highlight the community in Redditch and mark the milestone of Bound Together’s National Lottery-funded project ‘Bound to Thrive’.
Alison said the project had transformed the Matchborough Pond site, opening up the space and residents were now actively using it.
She said: “Through our Community Guardians programme, the next generation is getting excited about the natural world right on their doorstep.
“The newly opened green space has unlocked vital new partnerships with youth organisations and local schools, allowing children who usually face barriers to access nature, connection and sensory regulation.”
To get ready for the celebration, Alison is issuing a direct call-out for experts in the field with a passion for grassroots community celebration.
They also need a live event stage, sound equipment and power generator to safely run the live music into the evening.
And Alison needs volunteers, security marshalls, local talent food vendors and graffitti artists to work alongside the young people on the day to create a temporary place to express themselves.
Alison said: “By bringing together our brilliant grassroots services, local independent traders and Redditch industries, we are activating our existing strengths.
“This is about absolute community empowerment and having a say in our spaces and asset support.
“These spaces were designed for our families – and we are the ones who should shape them.”
“Working together as a community, we have proven lasting change happens with these collective small steps and we know our community can pull this off and create an event to be proud of.”
The team is working on adding interactive elements and dedicated areas along the woodland path to create a natural recharge and regulation for everyone.
And they are launching a free six-week exercise course next week.
Alison said: “This is a gentle, accessible programme designed to help residents start to understand how our bodies and brains work and react to life, grounding our mental health right alongside our physical environment.”
