Redditch charity Carers Careline launches appeal for much needed funds

BIG-HEARTED Redditch charity Carers Careline has launched an urgent appeal for funds.

The charity, based at the Ecumenical Centre in Redditch town centre, plays a vital role in supporting unpaid carers in the local community.

It currently provides support to some 200 carers and, in the past 15 years alone, has worked with more than 1,000 Redditch carers.

The charity’s chief office, Eric De Meo, said: “Carers Careline has been supporting unpaid carers in our community for 38 years.

“We provide a vital lifeline to those who dedicate their time, energy, and often their own wellbeing, to care for loved ones who are elderly, ill, or disabled.

“We provide a range of essential services, including practical advice, emotional support, and help with accessing benefits.

“Over the past year, we have played a key role in connecting carers with funding initiatives and dedicated grants securing more than £60,000 in financial support paid directly to the carers we support.

“In addition, Carers Careline plays a key role in connecting carers to our community, reducing isolation, building support networks, and ensuring carers know they are not alone.”

The charity also runs both a counselling and bereavement service and funds short respite breaks.

Unpaid carers in the UK are estimated to save the Government around £184billion each year – the equivalent of a second NHS – and it is Carers Careline that truly cares for those carers.

Erica added: “Demand for our support has increased by 85 per cent, yet the organisation is now facing a serious funding shortfall.

“Without urgent financial support from the community, local businesses, and partners, Carers Careline may be forced to reduce or cease its work, leaving unpaid carers without the help they rely on, increasing the pressure on already stretched health and social care services.

“Continued support is now critical to ensure this long-standing community service in Redditch can remain for those who need it most.”
