Redditch charity create expression of wishes form for those without a will

CHURCH Hill Big Local have created an expression of wishes form, after a member of the charity died without leaving a will.

Nettie Lloyd died in June at the age of 76.

Before Nettie passed, she was unable to put her affairs in order and it was left to Worcestershire Regulatory Services to organise a funeral whilst having no information of who should be informed, what should happen with her possessions, what kind of funeral she would have liked.

Coun Bill Hartnett ward councillor for Church Hill has helped create the expression of wishes forms, to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

He said: “The form can be used so that people can let the community know what they would like to happen in these circumstances.

“The idea is the local community group makes contact with the person or indeed the person makes contact with the community group.

“The expression of wish form is filled in with copies kept by the person and the community group.”

Coun Hartnett said although the project is part of Nettie’s legacy, he hopes it will get families talking.

“It’s not just people with no family, sometimes talking about death can be difficult and people leave it too late to discuss what they want at their funeral.

“With this form, people can fill it out, and leave it for their loved ones to find.”

So far Church Hill Big Local, Inspire at Winyates, Batchley Support Group and Brockhill Residents Association have signed.
