Redditch charity plea for more support for nurses in crisis

Redditch Editorial 23rd Aug, 2017   0

REDDITCH charity Cavell Nurses’ Trust is urging more people to help support struggling nursing professionals and get involved in its #10kForNurses campaign.

Their aim is to raise £10,000 in October by encouraging people to do a 10k challenge of their choice.

The charity, with offices on Prospect Hill, supports nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants in the UK, both working and retired, when they’re suffering personal or financial hardship and has experienced a 32 per cent rise in calls for help in the first half of 2017, inspiring the campaign to encourage people to get involved.

Victoria Lewis, Community Fundraising Manager, said: “We’re hoping for 100 people to raise £100 each to hit our £10k target and get this much need money to nursing professionals in crisis. We’ve had 50 enquiries from people keen to raise money so far, which is fantastic but we need more.

“We’re pleased that we’re supporting more nurses, but this rise in calls for help is an appalling situation. Our Welfare team do an incredible job providing help and advice, but we can only do this with the aid of our fantastic supporters.

“Our #10kForNurses campaign is a practical and fun way for everyone to show they care and give something back to the nursing professionals that so deserve our care and support.

“There’s something for everyone. You can run, walk, swim, row, cycle or do something less active like baking 10,000 calories worth of cakes! One fundraiser is making a patchwork blanket using 10,000 stitches and another is hoping to complete 10km on a spacehopper! It really doesn’t matter what your 10k is.”
