STAFF from a Redditch charity shop have organised an event as part of the national Stand Up To Cancer campaign this month.
The Cancer Research shop in Redditch town centre is taking part in Stand Up To Cancer with a fancy dress disco on October 21 at Studley Road Social Club and guests are invited to be creative with their costumes.
Tickets for the over-18s event cost £3 or two for £5 and every pound raised will help to support the charity.
Manager Tracy Blewett said: “The orange and black colour theme is really broad, so we’re looking forward to seeing some really weird and wacky outfits on the night,
“The nationwide event will be televised, live on Channel 4 on the same night as our party, so we hope it will truly feel like we’re part of something bigger.
“It’s time to kick cancer’s butt once and for all, so please come in store and get your tickets and support us.”
Paula Young, Cancer Research UK spokesperson for Worcestershire, said: “Our fight against cancer is at a turning point and more people in the UK are surviving than ever before.
“Stand Up To Cancer raises money to speed up breakthroughs from the petri dish to the patients who need them right now. Every day, scientists work to beat cancer, and with the support of volunteers, we can continue to fund ground-breaking research.”
Every day, around 83 people are diagnosed with cancer in Worcestershire and the West Midlands and by joining Stand Up To Cancer, supporters in Redditch will be joining forces with celebrities, doctors, nurses and scientists to generate funds, raise awareness and help accelerate life-saving research.
