A REDDITCH Labour Councillor has been targeted by criminals who slashed his car tyre with a screwdriver while he was out out campaigning for his party.

At around 12.50pm on Thursday (May 4) Councillor and Borough Mayor Joe Baker found that one of the tyres on his car, parked on the roadside in Matchborough as he was out canvassing for the Labour Party, had been deliberately punctured – and he also found a Conservative Party flyer under the wheel arch.

“It is upsetting to think that someone would do this. And if it is indeed a politically motivated attack, it is very disappointing,” he said.

“For anyone to have their tyres slashed is a great inconvenience and a financial nuisance too. It’s not something we should be tolerating.”

With regards to the recent increase in tyre-slashing crime in Redditch he added: “People have just got to keep going but be much more aware of where they leave their cars. Keep your eyes open and report any instances of crime to the police on 101 immediately, as I have done.”
