A REDDITCH businessman is calling for the 50mph speed limit to be cut on The Ridgeway after a near fatal accident on Friday evening (November 4).
Andrew Britton of Move It Removals says he had parked his van outside his home on Evesham Road when a car ploughed into the back of it, spun off then hit another parked car.
“It was a serious accident – the crash nearly took the roof off the car and it was lucky no one was killed,” said Mr Britton, who has long campaigned for the limit to be cut to 40 mph.
“It was about 7pm and I’d only gone in the house for five minutes to make a few calls when I heard the crash – the police had to close the road and two ambulances came to take the injured passengers away.”
Police are still investigating how the accident happened but Mr Britton says lowering the speed limit would at least warn drivers they were approaching a built up area.
“I’ve been banging on about how dangerous it is up there for about three years but no body seems to want to know, but someone will be killed there if nothing is done about it,” he said.
