A LEADING undertaker has slammed Redditch crematorium for ‘not offering the service people deserve’ at a time of mourning.
And Mark Thomas of Thomas Brothers on Evesham Road says what was once regarded as a ‘jewel in the crown’ of Redditch is already losing out to rival locations.
“We want the best for Redditch and the crematorium is one of the most profitable parts of the borough council and they should at least make it look decent for the families of people going on their last journey,” said Mark.
He described the entrance gates as ‘an absolute disgrace’ before adding: “When you go in the waiting room I have been pestering them for at least some signs pointing out where the toilets are or the chapel.
“There’s a step out to go outside from the building and I have been asking them to at least paint a white edge to it so that people can see it is a step and not slip or fall.
“They need to look at the place as if they were a mourner, and then perhaps they might see what the problems are.”
A spokesperson for the Borough Council said: “The issues highlighted are a part of our ongoing maintenance programme and either have been or very soon will be completed, particularly now spring, and the better weather, is here.
“We did communicate this to Thomas Brothers so we are rather bemused that they have gone to the local media about this when we should all be working together to provide an excellent, value for money service to our customers who are going through distressing times when they come to us.”
