REDDITCH’S main Crown Post Office in Alcester Street has been given a ‘stay of execution’.
The Post Office revealed this week the branch would be operated from the same location by the franchisee RF Retail under Richard Fleetwood in the near-term while long-term arrangements were made.
In a letter to Redditch MP Chris Bloore, who launched a Standard-backed campaign to save the branch, the Post Office said: “Franchising the branch now will enable us to unlock funds to increase postmaster remuneration sooner while minimising disruption for the local community.”
Customers will be able to access the same services during the same opening hours.
Mr Bloore said: “I want to thank every resident who joined our campaign to save Redditch Post Office – your voices made a real difference.
“While we monitor this transition closely, the franchising arrangement helps secure the long-term future of local postal services.”
