REDDITCH may be outside the West Midlands Metro Mayor area but local cyclists might want to hear what the candidates say about their cycling policies when they attend a Cyclists Picnic tomorrow, Saturday (April 22) in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham.

The town is an associate member of the West Midlands Combined Authority over which the new mayor will preside and with recent opinion polls showing just 0.5 per cent between the leading candidates, it may well be that the cycling vote that swings the outcome.

A key responsibility for the new mayor will be for regional transport issues, and with all of the candidates pledging support for the West Midlands Cycling Charter the key challenge will be finding the cash to get active travel closer to London spend per head levels.

The picnickers will have a chance to speak with the candidates following some short speeches.

The main event is in Cannon Hill Park from 1.30pm.
