Redditch daredevil Taz scoops top awards for brave fundraisers

A FORMER head girl of Bridley Moor High School has been given two awards for her fundraising efforts for the Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA).

Tasneem Habib has not only jumped out of an aeroplane in a tandem skydive over Dubai’s iconic Palm Jumeirah but climbed to Everest base camp and trekked through the Gilgit Baltistan region, home to the ‘killer mountain’ Nanga Parbat, in Pakistan.

She’s paid for all the challenges herself and has raised more than £13,000 for the charity in the process.

The former Redditch schoolgirl is now a cancer drug specialist working for pharmaceutical giant Roche, and can find herself anywhere between their headquarters in Tucson, Arizona, in Redditch, or in points in-between.

“I know coronavirus is a terrible thing, and Roche are working on tackling it, but for me it’s worked out well,” said Taz.

“My family live in Batchley, my dad needed an operation and I wanted to be there for him.

“I had a meeting in Dubai which was cancelled, I arrived in the UK last Friday, and with the situation with flights Roche asked what I wanted to do.

“Working for them in Redditch is the same as working for them in Tucson, so it’s all turned out perfectly for me and I can spend more time with my dad.”

Taz fell for Imran Khan, now Prime Minister of Pakistan, when he was blazing a trail as a cricket star.

Working on cancer drugs and supporting his charity seemed a natural fit especially as IKCA offers free cancer treatment to those who cannot afford it in Pakistan.

The charity holds regular ‘thank yous’ in the UK for its supporters, all of which Taz has missed because she’s been out of the country, but at an impromptu one in Leicester last week, she received two awards for her fundraising efforts.

Roche met with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson last week regarding the provision of testing kits for Covid-19
