THE Redditch e-scooter trial area was has been extended to include the Halfords Support Centre on Icknield Street Drive, giving staff the opportunity to scoot to the office on green transport.

As Halfords colleagues begin to return to their desks at the support centre following many months of home working, the retailer has teamed with the global micro electric vehicle company, Bird, to create a new e-scooter parking area at the company’s offices.

Hundreds of staff based at the support centre will also be given promo codes allowing them to ride free for up to 15 minutes in Bird’s e-scooter rental service in Redditch, as a further incentive to trial the eco-friendly mode of transport.

The e-scooters will be available for hire by members of the public too, providing alternative transport options and helping to reduce the number of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars on the roads.

“E-scooters have the potential to play a significant role in cleaner and greener commuting, while also easing the burden on public transport” said Halfords chief executive Graham Stapleton.

“As one of the largest employers in Redditch, I am delighted that our own colleagues will now have the option to travel to work in an environmentally friendly way, through this new partnership.”

Halfords digital marketing executive, Lauren Bargiacchi, who is based at the Halfords head office, is planning to use an e-scooter on some of her commutes. She said: “e-scooters are a great idea – they look really fun to ride, are a good way to avoid being stuck in traffic, reduce fuel costs and you can still travel in your normal work clothes. I can’t wait to ride one.”

Redditch Borough Council Leader Matthew Dormer said: “We were very pleased to be able to extend the e-scooter trial to encompass a larger amount of the borough including Halfords head office, so colleagues who live across Redditch can commute to work in an environmentally friendly and fun way.

“I am committed to encouraging more residents to use sustainable forms of transport, such as e-scooters, as part of the fight against climate change and to improve air quality.”
