LOCAL construction contractors Abbey and Lyndon Builders have been nominated for ‘Contractor of the Year’.

Father and son David and Damon Auld, who run the family business based on Shawbank Road, are hoping to receive the award at the National Building Awards 2019 (NBA) held at the iconic Wembley Stadium in May.

Abbey and Lyndon were nominated after the work it carried out at Gheluvelt Park in Worcester.

It provided the public with new accessible toilets, a kiosk and a meeting room with a separate kitchen for the Sons of Rest Committee.

The new-build project also provided much-needed facilities for the splash-pad at the park.

David said: “Reaching the finals is already a fantastic achievement which reflects the hard work and commitment we all put into this project.

“This nomination alongside celebrating 50 years in the business is something we are really proud to achieve.”

Council Leader Matt Dormer, who visited Abbey and Lyndon this week, said: “It’s fantastic for a Redditch company to be recognised for doing such an incredible job.

“I’ve seen it for myself and they really have created something special.

“It’s fully deserved and I hope they win.”

Damian Cummins, awards director at NBA, said: “They have done incredibly well to reach the finals in this hotly contested category and we wish them the very best for the night.”

Abbey and Lyndon are celebrating 50 years in the business this year by running a monthly competition, offering the public a chance to win a £50 voucher of their choice.

All you need to do is guess where ‘Toby the Tipper’ is located.
