Redditch firm inspired by a stitch in time

A FAMILY-run vintage clothing venture in Redditch is now knitting items from all periods of history for museums, living history actors, theatres and film companies.

Mum and daughter team, Kathy and Sandy Brophy, decided to launch Vintage Stitches so they could share their love of historical knitting and traditional craft with others – and they have seen a surge of success.

The business, based in Matchborough, allows customers to choose clothing based on original 1940s knitting patterns, including items for men, women and children.

Customers can choose the pattern they like best and the item of clothing is them made to order – knitted by one of Vintage Stitches’ local knitters.

Mum Kathy was doing most of the knitting herself, but with the popularity of handmade vintage clothing on the rise, more skilled knitters are needed to join their team.

“We are not only knitting for vintage fashion lovers, but creating garments for museums, living history actors, theatres and film companies too,” she said.

“But it takes around six weeks or so to complete an item, so we really need a few more knitters from Redditch on our team to help us continue to bring these lovely vintage designs to people.”

Any knitters interested in working on a self-employed basis can get in touch with Sandy on 07841 967830 via email sandy@vintage- stitches.co.uk
