IT’S hats off to Redditch company GKN which has provided a debrillator and training for staff at Skilts School off Gorcott Hill.
Teaching assistant Anne Wass got the ball rolling after hearing the school’s charity committee was unable to fund the cost of the machine.
“I contacted a group called ‘Hand on Heart’ who gave me ideas how to go about getting funding and was also able to supply and train staff at a cost of £999+VAT, once we had the funds,” she said.
“I started writing letters to 26 companies around Birmingham and Redditch. Tesco donated a £20 voucher, but GKN was able to donate the full cost off the package from Hand on Heart.”
She added: “The British Heart Foundation in 2013 said that 12 babies a day were born with congentital heart disease with many of these undiagnosed until later in life.
“This was brought home to me personally when my husband was admitted into hospital and it was discovered his problem was something he was born with.”
