REDDITCH Food Bank is holding a collection at Tesco Extra on Saturday, June 22.
Volunteers will be at the store from 9.30am to 5pm handing out lists of the kind of foodstuff they need in the hope that shoppers might buy an item or two as a donation for them.
“We will be handing out our shopping lists and if people want to donate anything from it, well that would be amazing,” said Food Bank manager Laura Kyte.
Non-perishable goods like tinned ham, corned beef or fruit will figure high on the list as well as long life fruit juice and milk.
“Tesco is one of our permanent collection points where people can go shopping, buy something and drop it into one of our boxes,” added Laura.
“The collection on Saturday will be re-enforcing the strong links we have with them.”
The Food Bank drive comes after a hugely successful one at Asda in Redditch where more than 600kg of foodstuff were donated.
“A lot of people are still struggling with the effects of benefit changes and we are also still seeing a lot of people on low income and not earning enough to make ends meet.
“As a result we are still really busy and we are not expecting this situation to change in the near future.”
