Redditch food festival tickling the tastebuds in run up to Christmas

FINE FLAVOURS filled the air on Wednesday when Redditch’s festive food festival got under way with delicacies from around the world on offer, writes Shnae Harrison.

The five-day event has been organised to kickstart the town’s festivities in the run up to Christmas and there’s a three hour entertainment extravaganza to end it all on Saturday.

Each stall has its own unique foods and gifts, including Turkish, Caribbean and British cuisine.

Mohammad Javanmard, on the Turkish stall said: “All our products are imported outside of the UK, either from Turkey, Greece or Italy.”

Vendors were in good spirits, hoping the event, which runs until Sunday, would help with their bounce back from the pandemic.

Most Christmas events were faced Covid cancellations last year, affecting businesses in the events industry.

Roger Ravenscroft, on the Farmhouse Foods stall said: “It’s nice to be out doing something instead of being sat at home.”

Visitors were pleased with the event and had hopes of seeing more events in the town in the future.

Georgina Mackenzie said: “It’s a lovely thing to do for the community like the music festival held this summer. ”

The festival, being run in Church Green in the town centre with market events experts RR Events, is open 10am to 6pm today and tomorrow and between 10am and 5pm on Sunday.

Hot items, including mince pies and mulled wine, will be available to buy, as well as a range of takeaway cold food options.

Visitors on the Saturday will additionally be able to enjoy the three-hour Christmas extravaganza show.
