A REDDITCH gardener is switching her gardening shoes for walking boots to raise money for a food bank charity.
Margot Bish from Abbeydale is walking 30 minutes a day for 30 days to raise £100 for The Trussell Trust.
She aims to complete the challenge throughout September.
Margot said: “I looked back to the time I started my gardening business 12 years ago and realised that it was only luck that kept me out of the Covid trap – a business begun in the last three years and you received only minimal benefits.
“So many 18 and 21 year olds ready to work and no jobs available due to Covid. So many 40-50 year olds starting the adventure of a new business with their dream business smashed.
“With rising food and fuel prices many people need help.”
Margot usually cycles throughout the day to get to her gardening jobs.
“Now I will push my bike and walk. That will amount to 45 miles in the month, or just a little over.
“If you have any money to spare to sponsor me in this, I would be very grateful.
“Through my life, I’ve been lucky and never had an empty cupboard, but many haven’t had that luxury.
“No one should be faced with the indignity of needing emergency food.
“Yet food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network gave out 936,000 emergency food parcels between April 1 and September 30 last year.
“More than 356,000 of them went to children.”
