Redditch gardener Alistair to lead Wassail at QE Hospital orchards

Ross Crawford 11th Jan, 2018

REDDITCH gardener Alistair Waugh will be at the head of proceedings on Saturday when he organises the annual Wassail at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The QE has more than 100 fruit trees, and Alistair, together with Bromsgrove poet Spoz, the Brummie Gems Mollie Dancers and the Wassail Queen will be on hand to wake them up by making lots of noise and wish for a bountiful harvest.

“Our Wassail Queen will be draping toast soaked in cider on the trees to awaken them for the new season,” said Alistair, who also plays an active role at the Headless Cross Orchard Wassail.

The fun starts at 6pm when a procession will walk and dance from the main entrance to the orchard.
