REDDITCH’S grandfather, adventure runner, author and inspirational speaker Dr Doug Richards is getting ready to take on his latest challenge – in the Bermudan Triangle.
Last June Doug ran a half marathon on Easter Island in the South Pacific, the first in a series of 13 different races on islands around the world, with a total distance of 120 miles.
Later this month he sets off to complete the final three races, when he takes part in the Bermuda Triangle Challenge, a three-race series of one mile, 10 kilometres and a half marathon on consecutive days.
“It has been a wonderful experience, with runs past 700 year-old Moai statues on Easter Island, ancient lava flows in Cyprus, and active hot springs on Sao Miguel Island in the Azores,” said the 71-year-old.
“Perhaps the hardest effort was completing my first full marathon for more than seven years, starting on the Italian mainland near the town of Stra, but finishing in the lagoon island city of Venice.”
As a result of the ten races he has completed so far, Doug has raised more than £1,000 for the charity International Animal Rescue.
“I am so grateful to all those people who have sponsored me on my island adventures so far, but if anyone would like to support me on this final stage, it would be really appreciated,” said Doug.
“The wonderful wildlife on our planet is having a really tough time as we see from our news bulletins. Let us help to make sure that they can continue for our future generations to enjoy.”
