Redditch Green party unveiled candidates for upcoming election

Redditch Editorial 16th Apr, 2023   0

REDUCING climate emissions, tackling fuel poverty, protecting community green spaces and providing genuinely affordable housing are among the priorities for the Redditch Green Party which unveiled its candidates this week for next month’s election.

A total of ten Greens will stand across all wards in the borough, including David Thain who will be defending his West ward seat after defecting from the Conservatives in April last year.

The Green Party nationally has almost 600 councillors serving on councils across England and Wales, with neighbouring Solihull council marking the Greens as the main opposition party.

Green Party spokesperson Gabby Hemming said: “We’re delighted to unveil our team of fantastic candidates ready to represent communities across Redditch.

“When you vote Green on May 4, you’ll be helping to elect hardworking councillors committed to making our town a fairer, greener community.”

The Green Party is calling for Redditch council and the government to work harder to beat the housing crisis and ensure natural spaces are protected.

The Greens are proposing their pledges through their ‘Right Homes, Right Place, Right Price Charter’.

Coun Thain said: “Everyone deserves a place they can call home.

“That’s why we want to see changes across the housing sector, to create fairer, greener communities.

“Many residents are faced with homes that are unaffordable to buy, unaffordable to rent and unaffordable to heat.

“We need our council and the government to work together to deliver quality, affordable housing in the right places where people live and work, with the right supporting infrastructure and local facilities.”

Margot Bish will be standing in Abbey ward, Glen Theobald for Astwood Bank and Feckenham with Lea Room contesting Batchley and Brockhill.

Gabby Hemming will stand in Church Hill, Claire Davies for Crabbs Cross and Steve Sergent in Greenlands.

Coun Thain is vying to hold onto his West ward seat, Alistair Waugh is standing for Headless Cross and Oakenshaw, Kevin White for Matchborough and Vicky Lees in Winyates.
